Okavango Delta Botswana

After graduating from East High School in Denver, we had an extraordinary opportunity to visit our friends, the Campbells, one of whom was working as a geophysicist teaching the government how to assess diamonds to help deter the illegal extractions that helped fund ongoing conflict through the broader region at that time. We took a roadtrip through South Central Africa, exploring wild lands around Botswana and the Victoria Falls area of Zimbabwe.

A highlight of the journey was an excursion around the Okavango Delta in Botswana. We had three local guides who navigated the wild lands FULL of a diverse assortment of wildlife. At one point, Shorty came across a lion kill and cut off a chunk, which he stewed and ate off for days. We were not sure how that lion felt about it, but were happy to move on from that area.

This series grew from our meanderings and include depictions of the meat thief. Oil on paper, measuring 7″ x 4″ painted around the end of the millennium.
